Across the nation and world, thousands of scientists and their supporters convened on Earth Day to defend science against proposed government cuts. “Basic scientific research, aimed at producing ideas, not commodities, is useless to a system that needs to continue expanding profits. Today, everything is directed at making money, not at making the world a better place to live. Our dreams are in danger and it is time to defend science and unite with the active struggles for a better world,” says one of the scientists that marched.
