The plan to dismantle Medicaid

“Medicaid cuts will kill my kids”

Disabled people and supporters gathered June 22 inside the U.S. Capitol to protest proposed cuts to Medicaid in the Senate healthcare bill. “My child is going to die and my family is going to die, and they don’t give a damn about it!” yelled one protester.
Medicaid covers 75 million people, including 10 million disabled people. It covers 40% of all children, 30% of adults with disabilities and 60% of all children with disabilities. It covers services for the disabled that most commercial health insurance doesn’t include.
Both the House and Senate bills will essentially destroy Medicaid as we know it while giving tax cuts for the rich, although the Senate bill is worse. It would give almost $800 billion in tax cuts, mostly for the wealthy, while slashing more than $800 billion from Medicaid. The impact on the poor will be devastating.
What will they go after next?
Stopping these bad bills is not enough. We need healthcare for every person who lives in this country, regardless of ability to pay, and nothing less.

ICE is Today’s Slave Patrols

As we celebrate Black History Month, we are again reminded that Black history is at the heart of US history. This is because it has shaped what happens in this country in so many ways, and continues to do so. A case in point is the parallels between the pre-Civil War slave patrols of the 19th century and the ICE/Border Patrol abductions of immigrants in the US today.

Bondi’s Hearing Was a Removal of the Veil

Actor Mehcad Brooks says in a social media post that Attorney General Pam Bondi’s appearance before a congressional committee about Epstein tore the veil off American capitalism.

We Don’t Just Live Through History, We Make it

Good and Pretti must not have died in vain. We too must escalate, peacefully, strategically, and creatively. We must mobilize at all levels, including organized study of social and historical development. For we are not just feet and voices, but minds and spirits.

Trump is Building a Vast Network of Concentration Camps

By the end of his first year in power, Hitler had around 50,000 people in roughly 70 concentration camps. In the US today, ICE has more than 70,000 people in over 225 concentration camps, and the government wants to more than double both numbers in the coming months.
