The US should be a sanctuary for any human being who has been displaced or threatened and fleeing for their lives. The US has had a hand in creating the conditions that force people to migrate, whether from war or economic crisis. Thousands are either living out of doors at the southern border in Mexico, waiting for their asylum application to be heard, or they are forced to attempt a dangerous crossing on foot through the desert where many have died of heat and starvation.
