Watch BORDERLAND | The Line Within

Latest

Editor’s Note: The following is taken from an email sent out to Skylight friends and supporters regarding Skylight’s film, Borderland: The Line Within. The film follows the journeys of several immigrants to illustrate the larger story of undocumented immigrants in the U.S. It is available to watch for free through March 31 at 7pm Eastern. A National Immigrant Solidarity Rally, to be held online, is planned for March 31. See information below. We encourage our readers to donate to support the film.

Dear Friend,

As we confront the Trump regime, we share your anger and frustration about the inhumane treatment of immigrant communities and the brazen assault on our fundamental rights. We also have heard from audiences all over our country about the importance of our documentary BORDERLAND | The Line Within to change the story and inspire action, and wanting to know how others can see it. Requests for the film have skyrocketed over the last month. At screenings since Trump took power, we frequently hear the question, “What can I do to fight back?”   In this spirit, we are organizing a virtual National Immigrant Solidarity Rally on Monday, March 31, 2025.  We will gather with protagonists from the film–Gabriela Castañeda, Kaxh Mura’l, Alex Gil, Luis Osuna, and Carlos Spector–filmmakers, immigration rights leaders, digital humanists, students, and concerned community members from across the country to share experiences, strategies, and resources to inspire solidarity and actions to take.   The Rally will be accessible to both English and Spanish speakers. We will also make BORDERLAND | The Line Within, *FREE* to watch online the weekend before the Rally, in a bilingual version that Spanish and English speakers can watch together. We encourage you to organize watch parties at home with friends or in your places of community gathering–social movements start at the grassroots, with people joining in solidarity and shared purpose. It’s always more powerful when we come together!
You don’t have to attend the Rally in order to watch the film for free. And you don’t have to remember all the details, we’ll send reminders! If you can’t make it to the Rally, we will also share resources and action items in follow up communications.   You can still Host a Screening anytime for your friends and family, organizations, or community. And you can access our free resources about the border industrial complex and our film’s study and discussion guide here.   In solidarity,     Pamela Yates and Paco de Onís Director | Executive Producer, BORDERLAND Creative Director | Executive Director, Skylight

Democracy Shouldn’t Be a Luxury

A democracy should want every eligible person to vote. Given the attack on voting rights, including the attack on the mail in ballot, working class people may find it difficult to vote. The right to vote belongs to the American people, not parties.
