Homeless Union Leader:‘Stand Against Tyranny and Injustice’

An Open Letter to the Nation

To our community, allies, and all who believe in justice

As a leader in the Sacramento Homeless Union, I cannot stay silent in the face of what is happening to our people right now. We are witnessing direct tyranny—plain and simple—waged against immigrants, unhoused individuals, Black, Brown, and working-class communities. These actions are not only an assault on our dignity and families, but a violation of the very Constitution that is supposed to protect every person on this land.

Let’s be clear: ICE raids, mass detentions, and the sweeping executive actions under the Trump administration are not just policy disagreements. They are calculated acts of fear and violence that target the most vulnerable among us, tearing families apart and sending shockwaves of terror and trauma through our neighborhoods. This is not law and order—it is the weaponization of government against its own people, an abuse of power that our Constitution was specifically written to prevent. The founders put in place checks and balances, separation of powers, and the Bill of Rights to shield against exactly this kind of governmental overreach and tyranny (Constituting America, Heritage Foundation).

The Constitution guarantees rights to all persons in the United States, regardless of citizenship. This includes due process, equal protection, and freedom from unreasonable searches and seizures under the Fourth Amendment (Immigrant Justice). Yet ICE has repeatedly violated these rights—detaining people without proper warrants, using deception, and prolonging incarceration without judicial oversight (ACLU, Immigrant Justice). These are not isolated incidents—they are part of a systemic campaign to deny marginalized communities the protections that are their birthright under American law.

The Trump administration’s policies have only escalated this war. From deploying the National Guard to suppress constitutionally protected protests against ICE raids (NAACP Legal Defense Fund), to attempts at restricting birthright citizenship in direct defiance of the 14th Amendment (Brookings), to expanding detention and deportation far beyond legal and moral limits (Wikipedia), this administration has made it clear that the rights of marginalized people are expendable in the pursuit of political power.

History shows us that tyranny in America has always targeted those at the margins—enslaved people, women, the poor, and immigrants (AFT). What we are living through now is another chapter in that shameful tradition. But history also teaches us that tyranny can be resisted, and it must be.

I call on every person of conscience to recognize this moment for what it is: a direct assault not just on immigrants, but on the Constitution itself and the idea of America as a place of liberty and justice for all. If we let this stand, we betray not only our neighbors, but the very foundation of our democracy. The Constitution gives us not only the right but the duty to resist and to demand a government that serves all people, not just the powerful (National Urban League, Constitution Center).

Sacramento Homeless Union stands unyielding. We honor the sacrifices of our ancestors—those who crossed borders, endured hardship, and believed in the promise of citizenship and belonging. We will not let tyranny define our future. We will fight for justice, for our Constitution, and for every family threatened by these attacks.

Yet the President of the United States continues to wield the full force of the federal government against our people—openly violating constitutional rights and trampling on the very foundations of democracy. Instead of upholding the rule of law and protecting the vulnerable, this administration has chosen to sow division, fear, and violence. These are not the actions of a leader committed to liberty and justice; they are the acts of someone determined to undermine the Constitution and the will of the people for political gain. We see this for what it is: a betrayal of the nation’s highest ideals, and a direct assault on the soul of America.

Everyone rise up together and we can flip the tables of injustice!!!

In solidarity and resistance,

Glimpses of the Terror Inside a Detention Hotspot

The patch pictured above appears on the uniforms of some guards at "Alligator Alcatraz" in Florida. Below the grim reaper riding on an alligator are two human skulls, similar to the Totenkopf or death's head that the Nazis who ran and guarded German WWII concentration camps had on their SS uniforms.

The Women Who Move the Labor Movement Forward

History shows that the labor movement moves forward when women organize. Women have repeatedly proven willing to confront power, build solidarity, and move the fight forward when others hesitate.

Nicole Boynton was the first woman freed as part of Georgia’s Survivor Justice Act, putting a national spotlight on how courts discount abuse in homicide cases — especially for Black women.

Stop the War on Iran! Impeach Trump!

The US-Israeli war against Iran is unprovoked, immoral and illegal. The majority of the people of the US are opposed to it, and we are obligated to stand up and stop it. This is also an opportunity to impeach and remove Trump and try and set the country on a new course.

The True Economy

The real economy doesn’t live on Wall Street. The real economy is represented by people standing in line at food banks hoping the food doesn’t run out before their turn comes.
