‘Humanity in general is re-evaluating everything . . .’

The following is from a Facebook post from Elena Herrada in Detroit. She is a ‘counter narrator, mother, grandmother and shameless heckler. Radio host on 910am,”Beloved Detroit.’

DETROIT, MI — Today I got my bike tire fixed and got a new helmet. Also took my slovenly self to the gym and really worked up a sweat. Planted a few more perennials, did laundry, visited my mom and my sister #MaryHerrada O‘Connor. I don’t measure life this way (a wild understatement) but it was a very productive day.

I want to also mention that when I went to CVS on Vernor, my favorite cashier told me that he was ready to walk out and leave this job because he’s being so overworked.

I got my car washed today where there was only one person working at the carwash by himself because he said no one came in.

I cancelled my eye appointment because no one was there to answer the phone and I didn’t think anybody was in the office.

I switched from Pearle Vision because there was only one person working there by herself and I thought it was a very unsafe environment because she had to lock the door, answer the phone, make appointments and do everything there by herself.

I’m also noticing that people have no tolerance for abuse because they haven’t had to put up with anybody for over a year. The oil change at Firestone was the first indication when a simple oil change took eight hours because someone walked off the job.

My favorite restaurant owner told me that people leave almost as soon as they get to work and don’t come back.

It’s not exactly the general strike of the past. But Humanity in general is re-evaluating everything.
