We are publishing below some of the many articles from Witness at the Border’s Journey for Justice. Or el Peregrinaje por la Justicia. Beginning on December 2, people from all over the country began a caravan from the Gulf of Mexico to the Pacific, in a 2,300 mile border pilgrimage along the entire length of the US-Mexico border. The purpose was to, as Joshua Rubin, founder of Witness at the Border, writes, “See the truth behind the border wall of lies, to look into the eyes of our sisters and brothers on the other side. What people witness on the journey will be publicized.” Dozens of activists from all over the country will commemorate those who have died at the US-Mexico border – 2022 was a record year, 856 deaths as of October 22 – and highlight the injustice of our immigration policies. Joshua Rubin describes the journey as beggining at the mouth of the Río Grande on the Gulf of Mexico and traveling to the Pacific, “where a wall cuts cruelly into the sea . . . the southern border, with its bollards and razor wire and assault weapons, is the visible face of fear. People who are afraid feel they cannot afford to be generous, to recognize the humanity in the faces of those driven to find new homes with us. The Journey for Justice is an opportunity to look at those faces and to welcome them.” Please visit witnessattheborder.org for more information about Witness at the Border and the Journey for Justice. The Tribuno del Pueblo and People’s Tribune, sister publications, are proud to be partnering and participating with the Journey for Justice.
