He slings through trash
On every block
He only finds refuse
No food
I watch him
From the other sidewalk
As he rows down the concrete
Looking as if he’s Kerouac
Scanning for fires
From the Dharma mountain
Arms swing free
He’s being noticed
By someone today
He smiles
Waves from the other side
