More than 214,000 Americans have died from Covid-19 as of this writing. New cases hit a two-month high, and 10 states report record increases. On this page we highlight demands of educators for safe schools before returning to work, of nurses demanding Medicare for all, and the special needs of farmworkers who put food on our table. In the face of government failure, several things are immediately needed: We need a massive movement demanding a coordinated, national response to the pandemic, directed by the federal government, so that resources can be directed to where they’re needed. The president should formally invoke the Defense Production Act, so that corporations can be ordered to produce the needed protective equipment, supplies, drugs, etc. Covid drugs and vaccines should be free. And we urgently need universal health care so all of us can have quality health care, regardless of ability to pay. From the Editors
