Join the Chicago Committee for Human Rights in the Philippines (CCHRP), Malaya Chicago and the Illinois Green New Deal Coalition to learn about how harmful extractive industries are part of the larger system of imperialism that is destroying our people and the planet. We’ll focus in on indigenous communities and issues in the Philippines and show how their struggles are connected to ours here in the US. We will also discuss where the GND’s goals and international solidarity stand in tension, so we can work towards ways to bring more global solidarity into the GND. Through this event, we hope to broaden our perspective on the global impacts of US imperialism, reflect critically on strengthening our own organizing to stand in global solidarity with environmental justice movements, and truly create a just transition for all.

This virtual event will take place on Wednesday, September 7th from 5:30pm to 7:30pm Central time. It will contain a presentation from members of CCHRP, Malaya Chicago, and the Illinois Green New Deal coalition, multiple spaces for discussion among attendees about integrating learnings into their own organizing work, and action items to stand in solidarity with the environmental justice movement in the Philippines and beyond.
