People across the globe have been paying attention to the United States as we host the final matches of the World Cup.

Behind the celebration, here’s the reality you won’t see on your TV screen: every single country that made it to the semifinals has guaranteed health care, while the United States does not.

England and Spain run single-payer health care systems that are free at the point of service. The National Health Service and Sistema Nacional de Salud are tax-funded programs that ensure residents get the care they need.1, 2

France achieves guaranteed health care through a statutory health insurance system. Even though it’s set up differently, 100% of residents are entitled to public health coverage.3

While the health care system in Argentina has more private and union-run health insurance than the other semifinalist countries, they also guarantee free medical care through a network of public hospitals with provincial Ministries of Health.4

Here’s the bottom line: all four of these countries guarantee health care while spending significantly less per capita than the United States.5

There is absolutely no good reason for the United States to spend more on health care while also delivering worse results than peer countries. We can change that by passing Medicare for All — ensuring all U.S. residents (regardless of immigration status) can see a doctor, go to the emergency room, and have health care guaranteed as a human right.

But to win, we have to fight. That’s why we’re hosting a National Medicare for All Day of Action on July 30th.

People across the country will be joining together to flex the strength of our movement and demand guaranteed health care now — and we need you to join them.

Will you pledge to take part in the July 30th Medicare for All Day of Action and show our politicians that we won’t back down?

Join Our Day of Action

While you’re watching the final matches of the World Cup, remember: it doesn’t have to be this way. We can win guaranteed health care, but only if we organize together.
