Dear Readers, the People’s Tribune is publishing below U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar’s email about DHS (Department of Homeland Security) agents raiding and searching the Congresswoman’s home. We share her outrage. We cannot allow the government to use their power to silence our elected officials, or anyone else who stands up. We encourage our readers to demand that the Democratic Party strongly condemn this action, which threatens the freedom of every American.
Rep. Ilhan Omar’s Email:
Donald Trump’s fascism and abuse of power has now come to my literal front door.
This morning, DHS agents raided and searched my home in the DC area as the latest step in their ludicrous, partisan investigation into my immigration status.
I have been in Trump’s crosshairs for years, but now he is escalating in a desperate attempt to drag me and the entire progressive movement down ahead of the midterms.
It’s no accident that this raid comes three weeks before an election where I’m on the ballot.
This is part of the fascist playbook to rile up Trump’s die-hard supporters and give them a big distraction in advance of the midterms. With this obviously political investigation, Trump is telling his voters: “Ignore the price of gas, ignore the war in Iran, ignore that you’re losing your healthcare — we want you to get angry about this instead.”
Throughout his presidency, Trump has weaponized the Department of Justice (DOJ) to target his political opponents, manufacturing charges that have been roundly dismissed by court after court. And I’m not even the first member of Congress to be targeted. The point is to waste everyone’s time and resources, and generate negative headlines for his opponents.
I will repeat what I have long said: This is a ludicrous investigation, and Trump’s escalation is only further proof that he is willing to use the power of the federal government to try to intimidate and silence anyone who stands up to him. It’s up to us to make sure it doesn’t work.
In just a few weeks we can strike a major blow at Trump’s fascist agenda and end this era of authoritarianism by taking Congress back from MAGA. Today, as I stand in the breach of Trump’s endless attacks and immense power to do harm, I’m asking for your support:
