Around My Neck
By Kathy Powers

I carry my safety
Around my neck.
I carry our safeties
Around my neck.

Around my neck
So I don’t lose them
When I go out
To face the unknown.

My smart phone,
My bus pass,
My home keys,
My red plastic whistle.

A Temu red whistle
I wear outside
To warn my neighbors
When danger happens.

I carry my safety
Around my neck.
I carry our safeties
Around my neck.

Close to my heart.
