Just when we thought things could not get any worse, the long suffering and embattled residents of Flint were served some devastating news. The Michigan Supreme Court refused to hear a last gasp effort by the Michigan Attorney General to bring criminal charges against former Governor Rick Snyder for the role he and others played in the 2014 poisoning of the city. This after 7 years and $60 million dollars later. Former Governor Snyder, top aid Rich Baird, and State Health Dept. Director Nick Lyons along with eight others are now set free.

In June of 2019, residents, as well as the nation, were stunned when the then newly elect ed Attorney General Dana Nessel dropped all of the criminal charges claiming there were “problems” with the previous investigations of former Special Prosecutor Todd Flood. There were red flags then. But the Flint Community who cried foul were still hopeful that justice would be served.

With almost 10 years of the crisis, having dealt with death, health challenges, Legionella, children’s social emotional trauma along with learning disabilities — this failure of the judicial system is unforgivable.

Resilient as we are, Flint residents will not give up on being made whole.
